This post is all about how to style a Christmas dining table.
Christmas Dining Table Ideas
If you’re hosting Christmas dinner or simply looking to elevate your dining room for the holiday season, there are a few things you need to consider besides the food you will be serving. You need to consider the layout and the overall presentation of your Christmas table setting.
When styling your Christmas dining table, there are 5 key decor items you need to include in your design to ensure you have stunning table presentation. These must-have Christmas decor items for decorating your dining room table include a Christmas table runner, a Christmas table centerpiece, Christmas china, Christmas table napkins, and candles,
1. Christmas Table Runner
The first thing your dining table needs in order to be holiday ready is a Christmas table runner. There are many different Christmas table runner ideas you can choose from. You can choose an actual fabric table runner that coordinates with your color palette or theme. Or you can opt for Christmas table garland.
For this Christmas dining table inspiration, I went with Christmas table garland. Garland adds more greenery to the design and creates warmth and dimension. Garland is more on the traditional Christmas decor side which is timeless and classy.
Another great reason to make Christmas garland your table runner this season is because it will coincide with the Christmas decor trends in 2023. A Christmas decor trend in 2023 is using more natural elements. The greenery, berries, and pinecones check the box of the natural element component making garland the perfect decor piece if you want to follow this 2023 Christmas decor trend.

2. Christmas Table Centerpiece
The crucial Christmas decor item you need to make a successful Christmas tablescape is a Christmas table centerpiece. Your centerpiece is the focal point of your entire table. It should pull the rest of the table together.
The Christmas centerpiece can vary depending on the remainder of your decor. For example, if you chose a fabric table runner then you might like your centerpiece to be some type of greenery. Or some flowers displayed in a festive vase.
But on the other hand, you wouldn’t want this if you chose garland as the table runner. The combination of the two would be too much greenery. Choose your centerpiece accordingly.
Some classic centerpieces that are most likely a safe bet and will compliment the design are things like a classic Christmas nativity scene, candles or votives, Christmas greenery or poinsettias, or Christmas ball ornaments displayed in a bowl.

3. Christmas China
Moving on to our next item for our Christmas table decorations. It’s time to talk Christmas china! Your china is essentially the most important part of your Christmas dining table. There are so many elegant Christmas china pieces to choose from. You really can’t go wrong!
In this Christmas dining table inspiration, I went with a traditional Christmas china pattern. I love it because it’s timeless and will age well for years to come. Investing in timeless holiday pieces that can be used year after year is a great way to save money in the long run!
A key design tip when styling any type of china on your dining table is to add plenty of layers, patterns, and texture. As seen in this design above, we have the woven place mats paired with the multi-stacked plates, and checkered table napkin for an overall completed, stunning look!
Layer your china starting with a dinner plate, then salad plate, bread and butter plate, cup, and saucer. Another great idea for styling your Christmas dining table would be to use a charger plate that is within your color palette. This would add even more pops of color and dimension to your design.

The last Christmas decor piece needed for your dining table is some type of table napkin. The napkin can be solid or patterned. Just make sure it compliments your color palette.
Layer up your napkins by placing them under a salad plate or pair them with a napkin ring and set them on top front and center. Once again, the napkin adds more layers, patterns, color, and texture to your design. All essential components to a beautiful dining table!
