Best Sectional Throw Pillows
Before we get in to this step by step for styling a sectional, I’ve linked below the BEST pillow inserts. These pillow inserts will change the entire look of your living room. They will make your pillows look insanely more expensive but the price is SO affordable. Bonus points because they chop so well!
Also, pillow covers are a great way to use what you already have and take up much less space when not in use. I only buy pillows with zippers on them now so I can switch out the original pillow insert for these babies!

1. Sectional Throw Pillows – Color Palette
The first step when it comes to arranging pillows on your sectional is choosing a color palette. A safe bet when choosing a color palette is to always incorporate at least 2-3 colors but no more than 5.
Take into consideration the color of your couch and go from there. Choosing pillows with the same color or tone of your sectional will allow the colors to easily flow in to one another.
Use neutral colors like beige, grays, or linens as your basics or fill in pillows, and then intertwine your brighter bolder hues. Bolder colors that always look beautiful paired with neutrals are hues like blue, green, sage, or mauve.
Lastly, always style in a throw blanket with the same pop of color. A throw adds a cozy, lived in feel to the space.

2. What Size Pillows For Sectional Couch – Pillow Sizes
After you choose your color palettes it’s time to determine which size pillows to style on your sectional. Always start with the largest pillows first. The corners of the sectional look best styled with a large 24″ inch pillow. These largest pillows will be your base.
Now it’s time to layer smaller pillows in the front. Use 22″ inch pillows layered in front of the 24″ inch ones. Use these slightly smaller sized pillows in each corner and to fill in the look.
The amount of pillows you arrange on your sectional depends on the look you want. If you’re going for a cozier look then you’ll want several pillows. A more classic look will have around two 22″ inch pillows paired with a lumbar pillow.
A cozier, fuller couch will consist of different layers. This might look something like 24″ inch pillow as your bases, two 22″ inch pillows, a 20″ inch pillow, and a lumbar. Perfect sized lumbar pillows range from 12″ x 20″ or 12″ x 24″ in size.
Having a variety of pillows in different shapes, heights, and thickness will give a higher end, elevated look.

3. Sectional Throw Pillows – Pattern And Texture
The key to a beautiful pillowscape is mix and matching your pillows. This includes mix and matching your pillow sizes as well as the pattern and texture of the pillows.
Now is the time to have fun with the upholstery materials. Be sure to mix solids with patterns. Doing so will help calm the space through a loud pattern.
Have a variety of different fabrics. Have a mixture of velvet, leather, suede, linen, faux fur, etc. Pair these with different patterns that consist of your color palette. Solids, stripes, and florals make a loving pairing.
The variety of texture and patterns creates dimension for the overall look.

4. How Many Throw Pillows On A Sectional – Placement
Now it’s time to discuss the placement of the pillows. This is the break down of how and where you will style the pillows on you sectional.
Start with the back corner of your sectional and place your biggest pillow there. Now use your 22″ inch pillows on both ends of the couch to layer in front of the largest. Apply this same rule to the middle of the couch as well. This will begin to fill in the space.
You will then layer in your corners with shorter pillows. This will create more depth and dimension. Then add your lumbar pillow on the very front layer.
To sum it up, you sectional should have one 24″ inch pillow on the back of each corner/ends of the couch. In addition to this large pillow, the ends of the couch should also have a 22″ inch pillow placed in front of the largest. In the middle corner, you should place your 24″ inch pillow, two 22″ inch pillows layered in front, then complete the look by placing a lumbar pillow in the front center.
If you want a fuller, cozier look you an add an additional short 20″ inch pillow between/slightly in front of your two 22″ inch pillows. Then top off the look with the lumbar placed in the center.
